Yesterday’s gaffe by Prime Minister Gordon Brown – he made disparaging private comments about a voter with whom he said publicly he’d had an enjoyable conversation, forgetting  that his radio microphone was still live – is all over the mainstream media this morning, as you might expect.
It’s also all over the social space especially Twitter.

Clear Debts Debt Collect

Many of the trillion-dollar-plus costs have been hidden "off budget" and paid via "emergency" appropriation bills. The Obama administration ended the worst of these practices, at least. It is one reason that the debt and deficits look so big today.

Nearly a third of people (31%) hide the true extent of debt from family members, research by OnePoll for the Post Office found. One in six women (16%) and more than a quarter of men (28%) do not tell their partners how much they owe, the survey of 2 …

Apple iPad pre-orders started on Friday, and more than 100,000 iPads have been sold. The estimates for Apple iPad sales have actually reached 124,000 according to a report. The Apple iPad device started allowing pre-orders on Friday, March 12th with an expected delivery date starting on April 3rd. That's a pretty large estimate of pre-orders already, with a very even split between the 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB device. They have also placed a monetary value on these Apple iPad pre-orders, with that amount coming in at over $75 million in sales. That a pretty nice number for Apple when it comes to just pre-orders, and could be a very nice forecast to where sales might go later.

It seems that many consumers have been waiting for the Apple iPad to hit the market, and now with the chance to purchase one, quite a few have already pre-ordered one of the devices. The only problem with the first day of pre-orders is that it is difficult to project how sales will continue to look after that. There is a chance that sales could continue to climb, but there is also a risk that sales could go down after the initial excitement that consumers had over the product. The other reason it is hard to judge the success of a product by pre-orders, is that quite a few consumers will want to buy a product when they can see it in person. That day, in April, could add another boost to sales.

For Apple, it could become very important that the new iPad gets good word-of-mouth from consumers that ordered them on the first day. A number of the early reviews making their way around the internet were before a lot of people had even seen an iPad in person. Apple of course, is hoping to overcome some of those negative reviews, and find the same success that they were able to achieve with the iPod and iPhone when it started finding its audience. Time will tell if the iPad continues to be a success in this marketplace, but Apple can still be pretty excited about the numbers they are showing in just the first few hours of sales.

Airports Reopen As New Ash Cloud Moves In

Tuesday 20 April 2010

——————————-

Airports in Scotland have reopened but tens of thousands of passengers hoping to return home face further frustration as a new ash cloud drifts towards the UK.

Some 150,000 Britons have been stranded abroad in the wake of an eruption from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland that has thrown an enormous cloud of potentially hazardous ash into airspace over northern Europe. It had been hoped that the air was clearing and flights would be able to resume today but the eruption strengthened overnight.

Air traffic control company Nats said in an update shortly before 3am today: “Since our last statement at 9pm yesterday, the volcano eruption in Iceland has strengthened and a new ash cloud is spreading south and east towards the UK.

“This demonstrates the dynamic and rapidly changing conditions in which we are working.” Latest information from the Met Office shows that the situation is variable. Nats said it would provide further updates at around 9am today.

Newcastle Airport has also reopened for flights to and from Aberdeen and the Isle of Man.

It also said easyJet was hoping to operate a “very limited service” from late afternoon. Other airspace over England is expected to open from 1pm, not including the main London airports.

British Airways has cancelled all of its short-haul flights scheduled for today. The airline said it hoped to run long-haul flights scheduled to depart after 4pm, depending on a “full and permanent” opening of airspace.

Manchester Airport said it plans to open at 1pm at the earliest after initially hoping to open at 9am. But a spokeswoman said it would monitor further updates from Nats.

easyJet has cancelled all flights until at least 5pm in Northern Europe including the UK. A limited number of flights will operate in Southern Europe.

Earlier, Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced plans to use Royal Navy vessels to bring home some of the Britons stranded abroad. A brand new £500m cruise ship, the Celebrity Eclipse, is due to leave Southampton at 9am for Bilbao to pick up around 2,000 British tourists at the port.

A meeting of the emergency planning committee Cobra, chaired by Mr Brown, was held last night to discuss the latest updates on the ash cloud.

A Downing Street spokesman said the committee agreed the Government should “continue to do whatever it can” to return stranded Britons to the UK. Another meeting will take place today.

Ministers met yesterday following a clamour from airlines to restore flights, with carriers including British Airways pointing to the success of test flights.

While travel organisations warned that it would be some time before travel and airports were back to normal, airlines were counting the cost of the disruption.
BA said the flight ban had cost it around £15m to £20m a day.

Willie Walsh, BA chief executive, questioned the necessity of the hitherto “blanket ban” on flights. The British Air Transport Association has written to Transport Secretary Lord Adonis asking him “to commit to standing behind the industry financially at this very difficult time”.

The International Air Transport Association was highly critical of the European response to the ash crisis. It estimated that it was costing the aviation industry around $200m (£130m) a day.

Economic recovery may go up in smoke thanks to the volcano

Monday 19 April 2010

After the bank bailout that cost us all way too much money, a Europe-wide taxpayer-funded financial support scheme for the airline industry is being discussed in response to planes being unable to fly because of the Icelandic volcano eruption. British Airways is losing around £25m ($38m) a day. Easyjet is losing up to £5m ($7.6m) a day. They have access to borrowing and can cope with the financial hit just so long as it doesn’t last much longer.

Supermarkets have announced that supplies of imported flowers, fruit and vegetables are beginning to run low. Many businesses reliant upon air freight are losing money while perishable goods at home and abroad are rotting in warehouses.

Nobody really has any idea when the outpouring of ash and the volcanic activity will end. This crisis reveals the Achilles heel of globalisation: the more interconnected we are, the less self-sufficient as nations, the more reliant we are on specific forms of transport, then the easier it is for mother nature (or, for that matter, terrorists) to throw a spanner in the works. Countries untouched by the ash fallout from the volcano will suffer as well—for example, America cannot conduct much of its trade with Europe while the crisis continues.

Yesterday, Iceland’s Prime Minister could be heard on BBC Radio 4 expressing concerns that another volcano close to Eyjafjallajoekull may be stirred to eruption by its already active neighbour. If this happens, flights over Europe could stop for a month. The economic consequences of that would be disastrous across the whole world.

And before anyone thinks this might be good for the environment at least, with a massive drop in CO2 emissions while there are no flights operating, you’d be wrong to espouse this idea. Volcanoes pump lots of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, including methane which is said to be 100 times more impactful than CO2. Volcanoes have always had a hugely significant role to play in changing the Earth’s climate.

Volcanic activity should not be seen as putting the brakes on global warming; instead, it can accelerate the increase in temperatures in ways impossible to model and predict.

There’s something ironic (as well as scary) in the idea that a single natural event in a bankrupt country (that won’t yet pay back what it owes to the UK) could kill off the hope of a relatively quick recovery from the biggest planet-wide recession in history. Regardless, we can only pray that our governments don’t allow flights to resume until it is safe for them to do so. Contrary to popular mythology, it is possible to survive a financial nosedive but there’s no way back for anyone who dies in completely avoidable air disasters.

But what of all those hundreds of thousands of business travellers and tourists stranded around the world? Getting them back by boat should be the number one priority to arrange. My partner’s own parents are currently stranded in Bangkok and should have flown home on Saturday. As people run out of money they will turn to their embassies for help.

Something should be done today, right now, to avoid our citizens being individually bankrupted by this volcanic crisis, to make sure they are fed, given accommodation and brought back to their families as soon as possible—but a cruise ship from Bangkok, we’ve found, is a journey of two weeks. What happens when people don’t go back to work after their holidays because they can’t? Never mind the money the airlines and companies are losing, worrying though this is. It’s people who should come first. Bring them home. Now.

Article marketing is an effective way to broaden the online presence of any small business. By distributing articles to various article directories on the Internet, your business can reap the benefits ranging from an increase in web traffic, lead generation, new customers and a solid reputation. It’s a simple concept that has the potential to take your business to the next level and higher.

The foundation of article marketing has evolved from a well-known strategy called Search Engine Optimization, or SEO; a practice where web pages are optimized with keywords and published online in an effort to increase search engine rankings. There are three steps to article marketing; research, writing the article and distribution.

Research

The first step is keyword research. It is vital to inundate your article with keywords that you want to rank well for in the search engines. For example, assume you sell used DVDs online. You should research what keywords people are searching for relative to the term DVD (i.e. rent DVD, DVD rentals, DVD, or buy DVD). Then, you would make a list of approximately 10 or so of these keywords and sprinkle them throughout my article. This step is relatively simple and only takes about 30 or so minutes; unless of course you are still using dial up Internet.

Writing the article

You cannot just put together a glob of information and call it an article, as many marketers do today. The article needs to be well written and provide value to its readers. If you are a good writer, you can do it yourself or hire someone to do it for you. The goal is to write an objective article related to the topic of your expertise; and naturally placing the keywords within the content of the article. The article should not be a sales pitch or an advertisement. In fact, many article directories will not even accept articles written with a “sales type” approach. The article should be written with the intention to educate your target consumer group about some aspect of your industry. It’s always helpful to have a catchy title for your article.

In addition to keyword rich article, a second critical component of this strategy must include the distribution of a website’s URL, commonly referred to as back link. Most, if not all, article directories allow for an author resource box where links can be easily placed. Publishing a website’s address at the end of articles will allow interested readers to conveniently visit the site by clicking on that link.

Distribution

This is the component of article marketing that takes some time. It is good practice to manually submit these articles to each directory; as most directories have banned article distribution via automated software. Besides, by using automated software, there is less control of the article and the article resource box. I am not even sure the automated software even works properly. Don’t waste your time distributing article to every directory you can find either. Instead, be picky and choose wisely about which directory you want to house your article.

Article Marketing Does More Than You Think

Article marketing does more than simply reinforce your internet visibility. Unlike direct marketing, it actually presents a unique opportunity to educate your target consumer group in an effort to build long term, profitable relationships with them. Paid advertisements usually lose potency and relevance over time. But a well written article will continue to be republished on various newsletters, websites, forums and blogs; and trigger a viral marketing effect that will last for months at a time.

Benefits of Article Marketing

Anchor text. Most of the article directories allow for the author to select the anchor text of the link in the author’s resource box. This is the primary value of the links from the article directories. For example, if you are trying to rank for the key term “internet marketing”, the anchor text would display “internet marketing” but it would link to your website.

Relevant One Way links. Say goodbye to reciprocal linking. It’s not as effective as it used to be. Article marketing provides one way links from web pages that are categorized within the directory according to topics such as technology, weddings, communication or small business. Additionally, most of the directories use the article title as the webpage title; and rest assured that the title of the webpage with your link has your target keyword.

Website Traffic. Those who read the article and our interested in it will click through to your website and bring relevant traffic. Clearly, this is first step to building a relationship with them.

Viral Marketing. Most article directories allow other webmasters to reprint (or republish) any articles within their directory. Usually, republished articles can be found in additional directories, niche websites, forums and blogs. A well written article will go a long way.

Mindshare. A click-through from a traditional link is just another random visitor probably not even interested in your value proposition. But someone who has read an article and clicked through from the author’s resource box link is generally a highly qualified visitor who has been partly sold on the value of your offering. Meanwhile, even readers who do not click-through have been exposed to your message which can reinforce your long term brand effectiveness.

Finally, the Conclusion
The fact of the matter is that article marketing is only one component of a successful marketing or SEO strategy. You cannot expect to invest a few dollars here and there and wake up in the morning with profitable business, showing up in the number one position in Google and Yahoo for your key terms. Article marketing is one strategy that should be used in conjunction with other strategies as a part of your overall marketing mix.

A huge ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano that turned the skies of northern Europe into a no-fly zone has forced the cancellation of flights from Nigeria to Britain. The cancellation is part of the global disruption of international flights after the volcano began erupting on Wednesday for the second time in a month from below the Eyjafjallajokull glacier. It hurled a plume of ash six to 11 kilometres into the atmosphere, and this spread south east overnight.
The UK and Irish airspace management shut the airspace at 12.pm on Thursday as a result of the ash cloud from the volcano which is spreading over northern Europe
To this end, Virgin Atlantic and British Airways have cancelled their flights from Lagos into London while Arik said its flights into London are still being delayed as at press time.

Passengers that arrived the Murtala Mohammed international airport, Lagos for Virgin Atlantic morning flight were turned back as they were informed that the UK airspace has been closed due to the harsh weather condition.
Kudi Scott-Egbene, spokesman for Virgin Atlantic, told BusinessDay that affected passengers that needed to be booked into hotels have been accommodated adding that two of its flights are expected to depart Lagos today and may airlift the passengers when the airspace is opened .
British Airways on its part said in Lagos that NATS, the body in charge of aeronautical information services, has issued a warning that flights should not operate into any London airport after 11.30 am on Thursday.
A statement signed by Ame Lawani of Quadrant Company said NATS has closed all London airports due to the dense volcanic ash over the UK. As a result, all airlines schedules will be impacted and we will therefore not be able to operate services after 11.30am from these airports until further notice. Air Traffic Controllers direction is that it is prohibiting aircraft entering certain parts of airspace over the UK.
The European air safety organization said the disruption, the biggest seen in the region, could last another two days and a leading volcano expert said the ash could present intermittent problems to air traffic for six months if the eruption continued.
Volcanic ash contains tiny particles of glass and pulverized rock which can damage engines and airframes and an Icelandic volcanologist said on Thursday the eruption was growing more intense.
Britain barred flights in its air space, except in emergencies, until at least 0600 GMT on Friday, with a flight returning soldiers from Afghanistan having to be held in Cyprus.

Friday 2 April 2010

Currently web site of people promoting ads that say you possibly can make money online by posting links online. One of the most recognized is really a guy who goes on the name of Kevin. Kevin claims he's setting up a killing working not professional and he encourages you to definitely get your Google Kit and join him in posting links on the search engines therefore you to can start making the large bucks also.

Posting Links On Google

All of the other ads about posting links on Google get started with declaring that anyone can earn quick cash working together with Google. That ad states that you step on paid on a weekly basis of course, they cook starting R-E-A-L easy. They claim there aren't any upfront costs. All you've got to complete is pay the $1.95 shipping and handling fee on your “Google Kit” and once it arrives, you'll be on your way to big paydays! What could break, RIGHT? Trust me when I say to you, “Everything will probably break. Allow me to share the four deceptions these businesses use to trip people up.

Posting Links on Google Employing a Google Kit Deception #1

The initial trick these lenders me is to offer the perception that you'll be doing work for or handling Google!
